Product Description
Our Premium Skullcap supplement is standardized to 50% Polyaccharides extract.
Skullcap is a perennial herbaceous plant (of the mint family Lamiaceae) which has its origins in North America’s wet habitats.
The plant has ridge leaves and tiny flowers whose colour ranges from purple, pink, blue to white. The flowers (lobed) resemble the military helmets that were worn by the early European settlers, hence the name ‘Skullcap’. The settlers in the 1700’s commended this plant for its effectiveness against rabies. This gave this herb the name ‘mad dog weed’. The claim was later discarded as the herb became popular on a global scale. Studies have been conducted to investigate the health benefits of this plant. *
Product Benefits
Skullcap and its extracts are regarded as an ultimate herb due to its impressive, numerous health benefits. Research suggests that some of these benefits could be anxiousness support, cellular mutation management, cell-calming support, heart and liver health, fever management, muscle spasm support and as a sleep aid and relaxation aid. *
  • Stress. This herb and its extracts have been used for more than two centuries by both the Americans and the Europeans as a nerve tonic in and stress relief. Studies have revealed that this herb has anxiolytic activity in both humans and animals[2]. Oxidative stress in human beings is the causative agent of conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, depression and Parkinson's disease. The bioactive compounds that are found in skullcap may support the toxic free radicals which reduces the oxidative stress. Hormonal balance that will lead to less anxious thoughts is also inhibited by the skullcap 50% polysaccharides extract. The compounds in the extract will stimulate the release of endorphins, which are hormones responsible for keeping us happy. Phenolic compounds such as skullcap have a broad range of antioxidant properties that contribute to the hormonal balance in our bodies which help keep us energetic[2]. *
  • Cell Health. Research has shown that the skullcap extract is beneficial to cell health[3]. Experiments showed that the extract suppressed the growth of lymphoma and myeloma cells. The herb and its extract have certain flavones which have antioxidant properties. It is believed that these flavones give rise to the cell-claming effects[4]. The flavones also have free radical scavenging characteristics which support viral health management in the body[4]. *
  • In one of the studies that was published in the Beijing Science Bulletin, a flavone known as baicalein was studied[3]. The results showed that the flavones did not cause any mutation. This is a common problem that comes with many conventional cell-calming drugs, but skullcap tests show improved results. Another study focused on fibro sarcoma. This is an aggressive and highly metastatic cell issue of the connective tissue. The study was published in the International Journal of Molecular Medicine and investigated the effects of the skullcap extract which proved to be a great anticarcinogen support. For instance, the rate at which the unhealthy cells grew was greatly suppressed by support through apoptosis. The volume and weight of the cell mass was also reduced, showing the potential of the herb as a natural cell support. *
  • Heart Health. A study was conducted with the purpose of investigating the cardio protective effects of baicalein-a flavones from skullcap. The test subjects were injected with (ISO). This induced acute myocardial infarction in the test subjects. The results showed that with baicalein it greatly reversed alterations induced by the ISO. There was a higher level of antioxidant defense enzymes after the use of the skullcap extract. This showed that the extract has great capabilities of slowing down and even supporting heart health. *
  • Body Heat. A study conducted by the Korean Food Research Institute in 2014 indicated that the skullcap extract was effective against supporting overheating. The tests involved administering the skullcap extract to subjects who had food allergy[1]. The main focus was on the temperature levels. The results indicated that the group that had been administered with the extract had a tremendous drop in the body temperature levels. The studies also showed that combining the skullcap extract with other substances such as the fried B.A.S. and unprocessed rhubarb helped in the severe health conditions that had fever as a symptom[7]. *
  • Muscle Spasms. The skullcap extract has been found to be effective in the treatment of muscle movement[6]. A cocktail of herbal ingredients containing skullcap extract helped to support tremors, muscle spasms, nerve related symptoms, and other effects that were exhibited by patients.
  • Another study by the Laurentian University in Canada that involved animal test subjects indicated that the skullcap extract helps in the reduction of risk and occurrence of shaking [6]. Male rats were given the skullcap extract for a period of time after being diagnosed with epilepsy and they did not manifest seizures, while those which were not given the herb did. When the treatment with the skullcap extract was stopped, the seizures occurred. This shows that the extract has high capabilities of supporting calm body movements. *
  • Sleep. Skullcap extract will help those who experience lack of sleep, restlessness, muscle tension and other sleeping challenges [5]. Taking the extract especially before bed time will ensure that your body remains relaxed. As a result, it will create a perfect environment for a good night's sleep. *
